Welcome, Lane McKittrick, our new Family Engagement Coordinator (FEC)! You can connect with her by phone at 206-599-9900 or via email at lanemckittrick.wsds@gmail.com. Many state deafblind projects have FECs, who provide guidance and support to families, and now Washington is proud to have its own dedicated coordinator!

If you’re a family in Washington state, reach out to learn more about:

  • Virtual and in-person family support
  • Personalized or general support for your family and your child’s IEP team
  • Monthly family newsletters and shared resources via Facebook

Be sure to look out for the Washington Family newsletter each month! Email Lane to be added to the mailing list. Or follow us on Facebook!

Lane will also be a guest speaker at university teacher preparation programs and will join our Family Connection Zoom calls every month (next one is October 8). Welcome, Lane!

More from Lane:

My name is Lanya (Lane) McKittrick and I’m pleased to be working with all of you as the Family Engagement Coordinator for the Washington Deafblind Program.

Lane McKittrick, surrounded by her four children / young adults. (2024)

For those who do not know me, I’m a mom of four boys and I live in Sammamish, WA. Conner (25) and Dalton (16) are deafblind due to Usher syndrome. I’ve been working with the Deafblind Program team for a long time, both personally and professionally. My background and passion is family engagement. In 2016 I switched careers and went back to school to get my doctorate in special education and I am passionate about making IEP experiences better for families. In addition to my work here at Washington Deafblind Program, I blog and share research on my personal website. I also just wrote my personal story as a mom into a book and info is available on that website.

Please reach out at lanemckittrick.wsds@gmail.com with a quick hello email or to set up a call or Zoom to chat. Or click a link to my calendar. We are also co-hosting (with Oregon) monthly Family Connect calls on the 2nd Tuesday of each month. Would love to see you there.

If you have a question or need support with an IEP issue, could use some resources, or just want another parent to talk with, or even if you don’t know what you need (that was me when I reached out to Katie and Nancy a long time ago), please reach out.

And be sure to check us out on Facebook. I’ll be helping to share family specific resources.
